Loveless - Ruby Leaming

Mrs. Ruby Leaming Loveless, 80, a music teacher for the past 62 years, died at 9:35 a.m. Monday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette after an illness of three months. She had taught until three days before entering the hospital 28 days ago. Mrs. Loveless had been a resident of Romney for 37 years until moving to Crawfordsville four months ago. She had taught at Gladens Corner, Thorntown and Romney among other communities. She was a graduate of Clarks Hill High School and had attended Central Normal College at Danville. She was a member of Romney Presbyterian Church, Romney OES 460 and was a past matron and its organist, the Romney Literary Club and was past president of the Crawfordsville Music Club. She was born Oct. 7, 1887, in San Francisco, a daughter of James M. and Melvina (Loveless) Zion. Her first marriage was to Hunter Leaming on Nov. 26, 1914. He died Oct. 8, 1962. On Nov. 3, 1965 she married Claude Loveless, who died June 24, 1967. Surviving are a son, James H. Leaming of Crawfordsville; two step-sons, James C. Loveless of Pittsford, N.Y., and Boyd Loveless of Glenellyn, Ill.; three step-daughters, Mrs. Morris Thompson of Clarks Hill, Mrs. Arnet Smiley or York, Pa., and Miss Ada Loveless of Flint, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Lily Labaree of Julesburg, Colo., and two grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Romney Presbyterian Church with Rev. Peter Heemstra officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery at Romney. Friends may call at the Helms Funeral Home at Linden after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Eastern Star services will be conducted at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to a favorite charity.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Leaming Loveless were held in the Romney Presbyterian Church with Rev. Peter Heemstra in charge. The organist was Mrs. Mary Linville. Pallbearers, who also assisted with flowers, were Jim Kellerman, Curwen Leaming and Curtis Perkins, all of Romney, Remley Hern and Robert Kitts, both of Crawfordsville, and Charles Bennett of Linden. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery at Romney. The Romney Order of Eastern Star also held services. Those participating were: Frances Hurst, Otis Thayer, Helen Thayer, Iyel Naylor, Leota Storms, Fay Martin, Lois Voyles, Alice Francis, Barbara Morgan, Mary Butler, Hazel Naylor, Frances Skinkle, Mildred McCay.
